Community Housing Aotearoa Conference 2024

I had the great pleasure of being invited back to be the ear-on-the-wall this year’s Community Housing Aotearoa Conference. This year’s theme was Growing Together – Sharing Our Knowledge and focused on whanaungatanga and what community housing providers could learn from within their sector.

I love doing conferences for two reasons. Firstly, I get to fill my cup listening to the inspiring ideas and learning about amazing mahi that is going on around the motu. And secondly, I get feedback from people about how my drawings help them process and retain the ideas that are shared.

If you attended the conference you can download the images here.

Drawings were made on a roll of 1.5m wide artist paper with Neuland markers.
After the conference I photographed the drawings and retouched them in Photoshop to produce the printable drawings shown below.

KIND WORDS from COMMUNITY HOUSING AOTEAROA:

"The team at CHA have known and worked with Jacqui for a number of years. We are very grateful for all that she has done with us. We are a grass roots community organisation working in challenging contexts on some gnarly problems like homelessness and intergenerational poverty.

We find Jacqui has a unique talent for reading the room and listening deeply and empathetically. She then miraculously filters, concentrates, and translates all this into visual records in a powerful way that is so much better than meeting minutes. Much of our work is complex and looks at cultural and organisation change, and housing system change. We find her work and gifted story telling helps us to be more effective, to communicate better and to give our partners and staff a sense that they have been heard.

We use Jacqui’s work in all our communications, newsletters, publications and digital platforms to help tell the stories that most need to be told. We are deeply grateful to have the opportunity to work with Jacqui and will continue to do so."
